Four Years of Sun and Adventure: My Journey in Cyprus

Arrival and New BeginningsIn 2004, at the age of 23, I packed my bags and boarded a plane to Cyprus, a decision that would change my life forever. As an Estonian woman seeking adventure, I was drawn to the sun-soaked beaches and vibrant nightlife of Protaras. My first job was at a lively pub called "Fools and Horses," where I quickly learned the art of juggling trays and crafting cocktails. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter and the sounds of clinking glasses. Italian Delights and Local Connections. After just a month, I transitioned to a charming Italian restaurant named Verdy, owned by the same Cypriot man. Here, I discovered the joy of making genuine connections with customers and coworkers. The food was exquisite, and the evenings were filled with the aroma of garlic and fresh herbs. I loved the camaraderie among the staff, and soon, we became like family, sharing stories and laughter over post-shift meals. The Heartbeat of Ayia Napa. As the season came to a close, I found myself drawn to Ayia Napa, known for its vibrant nightlife and local culture. I secured a job at a pub that catered to locals rather than tourists. This shift was transformative; I met incredible people who introduced me to the real heartbeat of Cyprus. We danced the nights away under the stars, forged friendships that felt eternal, and explored hidden gems of the island together. I relished the authentic Cypriot lifestyle, learning about traditions and enjoying local delicacies. A New Chapter in Car Rentals. With the arrival of a new season, I embraced a new opportunity in car rentals, allowing me to explore more of the island. I moved into an apartment in Protaras, which soon became my sanctuary. The beaches were just a stone's throw away, and I would often spend my days soaking up the sun, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and making memories with friends. The thrill of driving around the island, discovering stunning landscapes and quaint villages, filled my heart with joy. Sunsets and Lifelong Friendships. As the years passed, Cyprus became my second home. The friendships I forged during my time in Ayia Napa and Protaras were some of the most profound of my life. We celebrated milestones, supported each other through challenges, and created a tapestry of shared experiences. I learned to appreciate the beauty of sunsets over the Mediterranean, each one a reminder of the magic of this island. Reflecting on My Journey. Looking back on my four years in Cyprus, I am filled with gratitude for the adventures I embarked upon and the people I met along the way. This island taught me the importance of connection, the joy of living in the moment, and the beauty of embracing change. As I returned to Estonia, I carried with me not just memories, but a piece of Cyprus in my heart—forever a part of my story. Conclusion. Cyprus was not just a destination; it was a chapter of my life that shaped who I am today. The sun-kissed beaches, the vibrant nightlife, and the warmth of the people created an unforgettable experience. For anyone seeking adventure, friendship, and a taste of life under the sun, Cyprus is a place that will forever beckon.

Embracing New Horizons: A Journey to Mauritius

As the vibrant colors of Grand Baie danced in the early morning light, I stepped onto the soft sands, the gentle waves whispering promises of adventure. At 28, pregnant with my first child, I found myself in the enchanting embrace of Mauritius, a decision that would change my life forever. The three-month sojourn began as a leap into the unknown. My rented house, a charming abode nestled near the bay, offered breathtaking views of the turquoise waters. Each morning, I rolled out my mat for yoga, the sun rising like a golden orb, illuminating my path to serenity. Under the expert guidance of a local instructor, I embraced the stillness, each pose grounding me as I prepared for the journey into motherhood. It was during these tranquil mornings that I met the most extraordinary people. A kind Muslim family, who welcomed me into their lives with open arms, quickly became my cherished friends. Their warmth was a balm for my soul, and together, we embarked on family trips around the island. From the lush greens of Chamarel to the stunning beaches of Le Morne, each excursion was a tapestry of laughter and shared stories, enriching my experience and deepening our bond. Yet, amidst the beauty and friendship, I faced an unexpected challenge. A visit to the local doctor’s office felt like stepping back into a time capsule, evoking memories of medical practices that seemed archaic. The sterile environment and lack of modern facilities led me to question whether this was the right place to welcome my child into the world. My instincts whispered that my baby deserved the best, and I made the tough decision to seek care elsewhere. As the weeks unfolded, I reveled in the island’s charm. The bustling markets, filled with vibrant spices and colorful textiles, became my favorite escape. I savored the delicious street food, the flavors of Mauritius weaving a rich narrative of culture and history. Each bite was a reminder of the unique fusion that defined this paradise. As my time in Grand Baie drew to a close, I reflected on the friendships forged and the lessons learned. My heart swelled with gratitude for the experiences that had shaped me during these months. I had not only embraced the beauty of a new land but had also discovered the strength within myself to navigate the complexities of motherhood. Leaving Mauritius was bittersweet. The island had woven itself into the fabric of my being, a sanctuary of growth and connection. As I boarded the plane, I carried with me not just memories of sun-soaked days and laughter-filled nights but also a newfound courage to face the journey ahead. Mauritius had gifted me more than just a temporary home; it had awakened a spirit of adventure that would accompany me into the next chapter of my life.
